Planning decision delay

We agreed for an extension to our 8 week planning application descision for a two storey rear extension to allow us to negotiate a consent with our local council rather than our application being refused. However we are now two months past our 8 week decision date and we have heard little from the council since they revisited the site. We could have submitted a new application in this time. How long could the council take to deal with our application? Is it a case of how long is a piece of string? Is there anything we can do or anyone we can approach to expedite the matter? We have little faith in the competence of our planning officer...

Your starting point should be to contact the case officer and ask them what the timescale will be. Follow this up with a call or email to the DC Manager if you dont get anywhere. Failing that, you are entitled to appeal against non-determination, although this neednt necessarily work in your favour timescale wise, as the appeals process itself will take approx. 3 months.
