Decking and Raised Platforms

DeckingYou do not need planning permission for decking or raised platforms in your garden if:

  1. the decking is no more than 30cm above ground level.
  2. together with other extensions, outbuildings (such as sheds or garages), the decking or platforms cover no more than 50% of the garden area.

What this means is:-

It is paramount to recognise that in certain circumstances, you will require planning permission when creating a decked area in your garden. For decking, the local authority will not normally be concerned about the appearance of the decked area, it is the height above ground level and garden coverage that are of importance. If the decking you wish to create is more than 30cm above ground level, you will require permission. Also, please remember that if the creation of decking results in more than 50% of the garden area being covered in structures such as extensions and outbuildings, you will need planning permission.
