Hi,

When looking for a builder it is always best to start with recommendations, such as from your Architect/designer or perhaps family and friends have recently had some works done and were very happy with their works.
The next place to start would be The FMB (Federation of Master Builders) or other recognised institutions.
Then you could try with places such as trustatrader.com or checkatrade.co.uk etc
After exausting yourself with these you will have definately found a suitable builder for your project.
When I recommend builders I usually specify to my clients to obtain a minimum of 5 quotes, that way they can get a better understanding for the value of the works to be carried out.

I hope this information helps.

James

I agree with most above but I wouldn't get to excited about any federations, the guild of master craftsman etc.....they are after all business and I can tell you first hand they do NOT vet builders, craftsman regular enough to warrant the title and the air of superiority that people tend to hold for trades with these memberships.

Google is your friend. You can always check a builder's name on the internet and see if they are of any good. Search for reviews, if any. You can ask neighbors who have recently built homes as well for any advice.
