Do I need planning permission or just regs to convert an existing large double detached garage into, ideally a self contained unit to let either for residential or holiday lets? Or just for personal, family use?

Hi Joy,

If you intend to create a self contained unit, then yes, you will require planning permission. For example, a granny annex or holiday let.
If you are intending to convert it into a play room or indeed a bedroom then in my opinion, you won't need planning permission. You will however need to check to see if Permitted Development Rights for your property have been removed. This tends to normally apply to properties built on housing estates.

Do I need planning permission to add a bathroom onto my studio in the garden that already has a kitchen in so I can then rent it out as a holiday let?
