Floor extension

I'm looking to extend the second floor of my flat by fixing wall plates to the party walls (the flat is a maisonette so the second floor is currently only about 2 3rds the length of the first floor, ending in a balcony overlooking the lounge)and extending to the outside wall. Does anyone know if I will require drawn plans and Building Regs for this or because it doesn't involve a structural change I will be okay?

Hi Nathan,

It sounds as if you will need both Building Regs Approval and Planning Permission. Flats and Maisonettes don't have permitted development rights so any alterations/extensions you wish to carry out will need approval from your local planning authority.
Cheers
James
