Planning permission amendment

I have had planning permission granted through an appeal that runs out in May. The builders we are using has said that we may as well demolish the whole building as not much is staying anyway. This would also save us on VAT which would mean a lot as we were short on budget for any finishings. Would this come under a minor amendment given we will be building according to the permission we already have? We would like to avoid having to start the PP application again due to timing and also the fact that we got permission through appeal.
