Hi Im interested in building my own small sustainable/ low impact house and was wondering how small a structure needs to be to not require planning permission. Also if I were to build 2 or more unconnected structures ie one for living/kitchen space and one for sleeping would this be classed as one home or two separate small structures? Thanks!

Hiya,

You raise a really interesting question and sadly, you will require planning permission (change of use) if you wish to create a dwelling. Irrespective of its size, planning permission will be required.
Going on to your second point, given that planning permission would be required, it is likely that the auhtority would condition the use of the separate building anyway.

I hope this helps
