I’m looking at buying an old cottage. Not listed but 250 years old.
There’s an old barn linked directly to the house, not freestanding.
I’d like to put a door from the cottage into the barn and create extra living space (in line with building regs)
Would it need planning permission as it is already attached to the property and forms part of the original structure?

It may be allowed under Class A and would therefore be dependent on PD rights being intact. See if your LPA offer a Planning history check.
