Cutting down trees and hedges in an AONB

Do I need permission to cut down a tree in an area of outstanding natural beauty? It's right next to the house.

Do I need permission to cut down a hedge in an area of outstanding natural beauty? The hedge is Leylandii and I intend to replace it with more environmentally friendly species.
